Robert Sapp: Middle Georgia College

Sapp was inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame in 2013.

Robert Sapp is best known for his 20-year baseball coaching career at Middle Georgia College from 1976-1996. He was inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame in 2013.

Sapp compiled a career record of 1,041-293-1 in 35 years of coaching baseball in the state of Georgia. In his 20 years at Middle Georgia, Sapp led the program to four junior college national championships, two runner-up finishes, one third- and one fourth-place at the Junior College World Series.

According to the Brunswick News, Sapp led Middle Georgia College to 11 state championships and he was named National Coach of the Year four times. He was named the Region 17 Coach of the Year 12 times. He finished with an 890-181 record at Middle Georgia before he left to coach the University of Georgia in 1996.

While he coached at Georgia for just three seasons and compiled a 77-88-1 record, Sapp was well-respected in the college-coaching circuit.

Sapp was an assistant coach for USA Baseball where he coached the college all-stars in 1983. He also coached in the International Cup and the Pan American Games. A wealth of his players were drafted and 21 played in the major leagues.

The legendary coach played baseball at Glynn Academy before playing infield for the Georgia Bulldogs in the 1960s. Sapp was inducted into the National Junior College Hall of Fame in 1995. He is also a member of the Richmond County (N.C.) Baseball Hall of Fame and the Glynn County Sports Hall of Fame.

Sapp was the head football coach at Berkmar High School and he spent four years coaching basketball at Brunswick High School.

He has conducted the Robert Sapp Baseball Camp across the state every summer for more than 35 years.
