Terry Cadenhead: Sprayberry High School

Cadenhead was inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame in 2016.

Terry Cadenhead helped turn Sprayberry into one of the state’s top programs during his tenure with the Yellow Jackets. Cadenhead was a teacher for 29 years at the school and guided the program for 27. He posted a 577-305 record from 1972-2005 and remains the winningest coach in the school’s history.

Cadenhead guided the program to a state championship in 1995. He took two other teams – 1993 and 1998 – to the finals. He won four region titles and was named the state’s Coach of the Year four times by the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association. In the summer of 2024, Cadenhead was inducted into the GACA Hall of Fame.

In 2013, Sprayberry officially named its baseball field after him.

“Coach (Cadenhead) has such a long and storied history at Sprayberry that putting his name on the field was an easy decision,” former Sprayberry coach Phil Henderson told the Marietta Daily Journal. “I mean, his longevity was just incredible. He was here for 30 years. He’s a Georgia Hall of Fame coach, and I think he brought respect and tradition to Sprayberry baseball.”

Several of Cadenhead’s former players went on to play professionally, including former Pittsburgh Pirates star pitcher Kris Benson and Philadelphia Phillies’ outfielder Marlon Byrd.

Cadenhead was inducted into the Sprayberry Hall of Fame in 2016 and into the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2024.
