Frank Worthy: South Cobb High School

Worthy was inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame in 2013.

Frank Worthy coached high school baseball at South Cobb High School for 18 seasons. He was inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame in 2013 after a strong coaching career. He coached both football and baseball at South Cobb.

Worthy coached baseball from 1963-1978 where he won more than 250 games in 18 seasons and helped the program win two region titles. Each of his teams won at least 15 games per season.

Worthy coached many players who went on to become successful high school coaches such as Harvey Cochran, the Executive Secretary of the Georgia Dugout Club, and current North Paulding head baseball coach Dennis Jordan.

As the head football coach from 1962-1978, he became the school’s winningest coach and led the team to two region crowns. Worthy also served as the athletic director.

He served as assistant principal at South Cobb High School (1976-1978), Wills High School (1978-1989,) and Campbell High School from 1989 until he retired in 1991 after 34 years in education.

Worthy played high school baseball at Americus High School where he was a pitcher on the school’s first state championship team in 1953. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Math and Physical Education from Mercer University in 1957, his Masters Degree in Education from Auburn University in 1962 and his Masters degree in Administration from West Georgia College in 1974.

The longtime coach passed away on March 1, 2013.
