Danny Blue: Heritage-Conyers High School
Blue was inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame in 2006.
Danny Blue turned a high school team and a college baseball program into powers during his coaching tenure. He was inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame in 2006.
Blue coached high school at Jackson High and Heritage in Conyers before taking over Georgia Perimeter College and turning the baseball program into a national powerhouse. He retired from high school coaching in 2000 after compiling a career record of 519-210.
But Blue took over at Georgia Perimeter in 2006 and led the Jaguars until officially stepping away in 2011. He compiled a 148-115 mark at GPC.
In July, 2018, Blue came out of retirement and became the head baseball coach at Social Circle High School where he led the Redskins to the 2019 Region 8-2A title. His overall high school coaching record stands at 536-224.
He graduated from Jackson High and after playing football and baseball at Chattanooga, he began his coaching career at his high school alma mater where he coached for five seasons.
He left for Heritage where he spent the next 26 seasons as coach of the Patriots. He captured seven region titles and was the state's Coach of the Year once. He also served as the head football coach for eight seasons.
Heritage named its baseball field "Danny Blue Field" after the longtime coach. Blue, however, always wanted his players to get the praise.
"I think I was very, very fortunate," Blue told the Rockdale Daily Citizen. "I always had good ballplayers. I was lucky ... a lot of people don't have that situation. When I was at Jackson, they were a double-A powerhouse. I was lucky to be in a good situation there. When I moved to Heritage, I just stepped right in the middle of a bunch of good baseball players.
"It was a great situation when I was at Heritage. It's one of those deals where everybody was going in the same direction (with) very little turmoil. I had a great time there -- nothing but great things to say about Heritage High School."
At Georgia Perimeter, two of Blue's teams won 42 games each and his teams captured a NJCAA Region 17 conference title in 2011 and made a trip to the East Central District Tournament. His 2009 squad finished as conference runner-up and he was named Region 17 Coach of the Year.
Blue is a member of the Butts County Hall of Fame.
