Danny Redshaw: Lowndes High School

Redshaw was inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame in 2014.

Danny Redshaw helped Lowndes High School become an annual state contender during his tenure with the Vikings from 1997 to 2014. He was inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame in 2014.

Redshaw finished with a 351-204 record in 18 seasons with the Vikings, the only varsity program he coached. He was also an assistant football coach. Redshaw guided Lowndes to the Class 5A state baseball championship in 2000, the state’s highest classification.

He led the Vikings to a state runner-up finish in 2001. Lowndes finished with nine region crowns, 10 trips to the quarterfinals and five berths in the state semifinals. His 2000 squad was voted the Best High School Team of the Decade (2000-2009) by the Georgia Dugout Preview Magazine. In addition, Redshaw sent countless players to college. One of his prized pupils was Major League Baseball standout Stephen Drew.

A three-sport athlete at Open Bible School in Valdosta, Redshaw served as an assistant coach at rival Valdosta High School before taking over the Lowndes program in 1997.

Redshaw stepped away from the baseball diamond after the 2014 season to go into administration at the school. He coached Lowndes on an interim basis in 2019 when he led the Vikings to an 18-12 mark and the Region 1-7A title.

“I think there’s a lot of coaches out there who are probably a lot more deserving than me to be in the Hall of Fame,” Redshaw told the Valdosta Daily Times in 2014 when he retired. “It’s definitely a great moment. And a lot of those coaches, and that’s another great part of the job is I’ve built some great friendships and relationships with opposing coaches over the years, and those relationships will last the rest of my life.”
