Anthony Dimitri: Jordan High School

Dimitri was inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame in 2012.

Anthony Dimitri was the third baseball coach from Muscogee County to be inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame in 2012, joining former Columbus High coach Bobby Howard and former Shaw coach Charles Flowers.

Dimitri was no stranger to Jordan High School as a player or a coach. After helping lead the Red Jackets to the Class 3A state championship in 1971, Dimitri earned his first head baseball coaching job at Hardaway where he coached from 1981-1990 and helped the program win two region titles.

He took over at Jordan in 1991 where he coached until the 2007 season when he retired. He guided the Red Jackets to the state semifinals in 1994. During his tenure at Jordan, he also coached football and was the athletic director.

The standout pitcher attended ABAC and Columbus College after high school. He finished with a career coaching mark of 436-258. He passed away after a courageous battle with cancer in 2008.

“This is special for us because it’s really nice for people to think about our father this way and honor him in this way,” his son Tony told the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer before the induction in 2012. “It speaks well of our dad that people want to induct him into this hall of fame.”
