Allatoona's Hansen notches 500th career coaching victory
Allatoona High School head baseball coach Keith Hansen became the latest prep coach in Georgia to notch his 500th career coaching victory.
Hansen's Buccaneers split a doubleheader with state power Cartersville Friday, March 8, 2025, helping Hansen join the milestone club. Allatoona dropped the first game of the doubleheaders, then won the nightcap 2-1. After Friday night's milestone win, Hansen has an overall coaching record of 500-189.
The 2025 season has been a special one for the Hansen family. His brother George, the head baseball coach at Kennesaw Mountain High School, recorded his 500th career coaching victory earlier this season.
Keith Hansen worked for the Atlanta Braves from 1992-98 after playing under the late Harvey Cochran in high school. He then graduated from LaGrange College.
After working under Cochran as an assistant at North Cobb, he spent six years at Alexander before heading to Allatoona. Between the two schools, he has won nine region titles, made the state playoffs in 18 of his 22 seasons as head coach, been to the semifinals five times and finished as Class 6A state runner-up in 2018 and 2022.
Keith Hansen was inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2021. He cited his assistant coaches over the years for helping him achieve the coaching milestone.
A student of the game, he said he’s taken ideas from some of the state’s best coaches, molded them together and tried to build on the things he learned. But he hopes his players leave his program with a few basic concepts.
“Hopefully, people remember us for how we played the game and that we have respect for the game and for the other teams,” he said.
