Kenny Palmer: South Cobb High School

Palmer was inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame in 2013.

Kenny Palmer is another of Cobb County’s successful baseball coaches who left his mark in the high school coaching world. Palmer was inducted into Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame in 2013.

The longtime coach may have been best known for his time as an assistant at North Cobb High School (1991-2006) and Mount Paran Christian (2009-12). However, Palmer was the head coach at three high schools – Lithia Springs (1976-79), Villa Rica (1979-83) and South Cobb (1983-91).

Palmer took South Cobb to the state playoffs all nine seasons he coached there and was named the Cobb County and Georgia Athletic Coaches Association Region 5-AAAA Coach of the Year in 1991. He finished his coaching career with 298 victories.

“It’s quite an honor to join this group,” Palmer told the Marietta Daily Journal before his induction in 2013. “I feel like I’m the (odd ball) of the (Cobb County hall members). You go to clinics in Chicago or wherever and those guys are the ones everybody knows.”

Palmer is a native of Lithia Springs. After high school, he played football at Presbyterian before transferring to Georgia and graduating in 1974.
