Ron Elgin: Lithonia High School

Elgin was inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame in 2014.

Ron Elgin has spent more than three decades of coaching high school baseball in Georgia. He was inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame in 2014.

Elgin coached high school football for more than 28 years. He also served as President of the Georgia Dugout Club.

Elgin retired in 2003 after serving as head coach at Walker (now McNair High School), Lakeside-Dekalb and Lithonia. He finished with a 279-289 coaching mark. In 14 seasons at Lithonia, he guided the Bulldogs to a subregion title and a region runner-up finish.

The longtime coach perhaps was best known for developing talent in middle schools. He coached junior varsity baseball teams at Tucker and currently coaches middle school athletics at Marist. He has also been a football and softball assistant, working at Shiloh and Collins Hill.

“I enjoy teaching them the game,” Elgin told the Gwinnett Daily Post in a 2007 interview. “A lot of players don't know the game these days. So I enjoy teaching the kids. And I like the behind the scenes stuff, things you see and just react to.”
