Bill Womack: Ringgold High School

Womack was inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame in 2006.

Bill Womack turned Ringgold High School into a Northwest Georgia powerhouse during his tenure at the school. Womack, also known as Socky, worked and coached in the Catoosa County School System for more than 25 years. He was inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame in 2006.

In his 18-year career of coaching the Tigers, he finished with a 376-172 record. He was named Coach of the Year seven times and won six region titles. His teams made the state playoffs 12 times and his 1987 squad finished as the state runner-up. His 1986 team made the state semifinals.

Womack helped put several of his players into college baseball and a handful played professionally.

"I told him, 'Bill, you are Ringgold baseball. You fought all the battles we don't have to fight now,' " longtime assistant coach David Crownover told the Chattanooga Times Free Press. "He laid the foundation, got the rec program going and got people interested in baseball."

Womack was a 1969 graduate of the old Rossville High School and graduated from Georgia. He later earned a Master's degree from Jacksonville State. Womack also coached football. Early in his career, he coached wrestling and boys basketball.

He sent more than 40 players to college and at least 12 of his former players played professional baseball.

Womack passed away February 28, 2011 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
