Bud Theodocion: Dykes High School

Theodocion was inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame in 2000.

James "Bud" Theodocion may be more known for his success as a high school football coach in Georgia. However, he was also a very good baseball coach too.

The Smyrna, Ga. native, known for being a quiet coach who got the job done, spent 47 years in education and coached at several high schools including Bass, Dykes, Northside, Morrow and Woodward Academy. In 1970, he led Dykes High School to the Class 3A state baseball championship. He finished with a career coaching mark of 280-102 with four region titles.

Nearly two decades later, he led Morrow High School to the 1987 Class 4A state football championship, then Georgia's highest classification, with heralded prospect Andre Hastings. He finished with a career mark of 152-80-3 and his teams won five region titles as well as a state runner-up finish.

He also coached girls basketball where he guided his teams to three region titles. Theodocion was named Georgia Athletic Director of the Year in 1988, and he was inducted into the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2006.

After graduating from Marietta High School in 1952, he spent one year at Georgia Military Academy before attending the University of Florida on an athletic scholarship.

While at UF, he was a member of the football and baseball teams. In 1956, Theodocion helped the Gators win the Southeastern Conference baseball championship. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Florida and a Master's of Education degree from Peabody College.

He passed away on July 29, 2005.
