Clyde Miller: South Georgia College

Miller was inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame in 2015.

Clyde Miller was a collegiate coach for 32 years where he compiled an 835-690-2 record while coaching at Indian River Junior College, South Georgia College, Brewton Parker College in Mount Vernon, Newberry (S.C.) College and Gardner Webb University in North Carolina.

Miller helped put South Georgia College baseball on the map. His junior college record in Georgia was 289-190 and his teams won six division titles, three state championships, four Region 17 titles and four Southeastern District runner-up crowns. He was inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame in 2015.

Miller was GJCAA Coach of the Year three times and Region 17 Coach of the Year four times.

After a standout prep career at Southeast Bulloch, the Stilson, Ga. native played for Georgia Southern from 1959-1962 where Hall of Fame coach J.I. Clements called him “the greatest college relief pitcher I’ve ever seen.” Miller helped Georgia Southern to a NAIA national runner-up finish in 1960 before helping the Eagles win the 1962 national title. He was inducted into Georgia Southern’s Hall of Fame in 1990.

Miller retired from Gardner Webb in 2002 as the winningest baseball coach in the school’s history. He also served as the athletic director at Newberry and Gardner Webb.

"Miller was a tremendous role model," said former player Tim Medlin, who played for Miller from 1981-82, and later was Newberry’s head baseball coach.  "He didn’t just influence his players on the field, but dozens of coaches, including me."

The longtime coach is also a member of the Southeast Bulloch Hall of Fame and the South Atlantic Conference Hall of Fame.

He passed away on March 22, 2005.
