Chuck Fehr: Glynn Academy

Fehr was inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame in 2008.

Chuck Fehr is the winningest coach in Glynn Academy baseball history. The longtime coach was inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame in 2008.

Fehr led Glynn from 1977 until his retirement in 2009. He finished with a mark of 485-291-4. During his 33 years, he guided the Red Terrors to 15 region playoff appearances, 13 state postseason appearances and five region championships.

He took Glynn Academy to the state semifinals in 1985.

Fehr was named region coach of the year four times, and he was an active member of the American Baseball Coaches Association. He coached the Georgia Dugout Club Senior All-Stars on multiple occasions, and he served as an assistant coach for Team Georgia in the Sunbelt Classic in 2006.

The longtime coach grew up in the Philadelphia suburbs where he played football and baseball until an elbow injury cut short his baseball career in high school. He played football at Lock Haven State University, an NCAA Division III school, after high school.

He landed his first coaching job at 22 and he coached the first two seasons without any assistants. Fehr also was an assistant football coach and taught driver's education.

He sent more than 60 of his players to college and seven were drafted, including Major League Baseball All-Star Adam Wainright, who was the No. 1 draft pick of the Atlanta Braves in 2000. Fehr also coached Kevin Brown, who went on to become a successful high school coach in the Savannah-area.

"I had a lot of good kids over the years," Fehr said. "Of course everybody knows about Adam Wainright, but early on, I had a guy named Walter Ward who led Lipscomb to a national title."

Fehr's No. 30 jersey is one of two Glynn Academy jerseys that have been retired. The other is Wainwright.
