Carl Carter: Savannah Christian School

Carter was inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame in 2017.

Carl Carter is the winningest coach in Savannah Christian's baseball history. The longtime coach was inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame in 2017.

He was hired in 1983 to coach tennis and didn't start coaching baseball until 1989. Carter led Savannah Christian to the Class 1A private school state championship in 2017, his first state title as a coach. He led the Raiders to four appearances in the state semifinals and his team finished as the Class 1A private state runner-up in 2019. He retired after the 2019 season.

His career coaching record is 637-223.

Carter graduated from Savannah Christian. He coached for two seasons at the old Pathway High School in Savannah. In addition, he coached at St. Andrews.

“It’s been a great run,” Carter told the Savannah Morning News. "I’ve had so many great players come through here and great coaches that have helped me out along the way — I’m just enjoying the ride.”

Carter has also been an assistant football coach during his tenure.

“It’s great playing for coach Carter, he knows so much about the game,” former player Ben Haeussler told the Savannah Morning News after Carter won his 500th baseball game in 2016.

 “He brings such a great attitude to the field; it’s a pleasure to play for him. I think he was really thankful to win his 500th game, but he acted like it was just another game. He’s really humble.”
