Jimmy Brown: Brunswick High School

Brown was inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame in 2008.

After helping lead Glynn Academy to the state baseball championship in 1973 as a player, Jimmy Brown returned to Brunswick in 1980 as an assistant baseball coach at cross-town rival Brunswick High. He served in that capacity for five years under Bill May before taking over as head coach.

Brown was inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame in 2008.

In 23 seasons as the Brunswick head man, he compiled 18 winning seasons and finished with a 314-218 record. His entire coaching career was spent guiding the Pirates.

He led Brunswick to 12 playoff appearances, including six trips during his final seven seasons. He won three straight region titles from 2005-07, and his 2005 team won a school-record 21 games.

He was the region Coach of the Year in 2005-2006 and he coached Team Georgia three times in the Sunbelt Classic in McAlester, Oklahoma. He also coached the Georgia Dugout Club Southeast All-Stars in 2001, 2004 and 2007.

"(Coaching) is something I knew I wanted to do in high school," Brown told the Brunswick News when he announced his retirement. "I've been blessed to have good players, good students and good citizens, and it's been a pleasure to watch them come through the program and grow up over the years."

Brown’s two sons – Jay and Jeff – had standout prep careers under their father. Jeff Brown took over the Woodstock High School program in 2016 and took the Wolverines to the Class 7A state championship series in 2017., then a state championship in 2022.

"Coach Brown taught me a lot, especially about carrying yourself with class and making sure your players always play with class and represent Brunswick High at the highest level," longtime assistant Charles Skipper told the Brunswick News.

Brown also spent many seasons as an assistant football coach.
